Love learning about these Portuguese wines! I definitely need to drink more from Portugal. I was super impressed by the wines when I vacationed there last year. Also, love the idea of a long distance birthday tasting with a friend. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
What is your opinion on red Alentejano wines from 2019 in comparison to 2022 or 2024? Do the 2019 wines of the same label taste better, or am I dreaming?
I haven't had enough 2024 reds to give an opinion yet. I know 2022 was rough for the region with such bad droughts. Plus, 2019 had really exceptional growing conditions. I need to drink more 2022 and 2024 reds clearly to really tell!
I am excited to try the Quinta de Cidrô Gouveio. The Pingo Doce near me does not carry it yet does offer a Vinho Branco Douro Quinta de Cidró Sauvigon for ~18 Euros.
Can you recommend a wine made with Arinto grapes from either Douro, Alentejo, and Tejo please? Thanks.
My absolute favorite right now is Quinta da Fonte Souto White- from the Alentejo and it is 75% Arinto and 25% Verdelho. Quinta da Boa Esperança Arinto White from Lisboa is really lovely (I know not a region you asked for, but had to add it). Ode Arinto White and Casa da Atela Arinto White from the Tejo region are both great as well!

Aren’t they impressive! I highly recommend the zoom tastings with friends. Thanks so much, Nikki!
Nice to read your words again! Do you know... I was unaware that Gouveio and Godello are the same grape - you learn something new every day!
Thanks!

It looks like grocery stores are running out of the 2019 bottles. Good to know about the 2022.
Yea, I am hard pressed to find 2019 here as well anymore.
Kate, glad to see you are back in the saddle.

Big thanks!
So wait, what DO the two wines have in common? (And glad to see you back for a quick post!)
They have me in common. HA! And that they both had epic pairings the day I did this tasting.
