Sweet foods are a bit difficult to pair with wine. They make the wine taste more bitter, more acidic and they dull the fruit flavors (and aromas) in the wine. In order to combat these negative effects you will want to pair your sweet foods with a sweeter wine. So, for instance, try pairing your apple pie with a tawny port. When you pair with equal sweetness or a wine with greater sweetness you will usually have a positive pairing instead.
