Well, all I can say is I got to open a wine for this podcast episode and now the name of the podcast feels so right. A wine affair was had with this sparkling wine. More on it later and in the episode. Guess you have to listen to find out!
I am excited to share that I had the pleasure of being a guest on the podcast A Wine Affair recently. The lovely hosts wrote the following about the episode:
Learn more about the majestic country and wines of Portugal on this week’s episode with artist and wine lover, Kate, from Survives on Wine. Kate merges her passion for wine with her love of art as a fashion and textile designer turned wine writer, artist, and educator. Kate tells us her personal story through career changes and surviving through her fight with cancer by continuing her passion for learning and studying wine. Survives on Wine is where Kate intertwines wine, art, and education - as they’re all interconnected - wine is art, and she also uses wine to create art!
Through her wine adventures, Kate traveled to Portugal and was immersed into the historic country and culture and has continued to dive into her passion for Portugal. Now, Kate continues her design skills to paint and design educational wine infographics and regional wine maps. Learn more about the wines and experience of Portugal and how we can all survive with passion and pours.

The wine I opened for the episode was 3B Blanc de Blancs from Filipa Pato. Made from Bical, Cercial and Maria Gomes in the Bairrada region of Portugal. The wine was aged on it’s lees for 9 months using all native yeasts as the vineyard is biodynamic. The wine rivals grower Champagnes in my opinion. It had complexity and was absolutely balanced beautifully. Notes of lemon, pear, green apple, bread dough, saline and limestone with a creaminess to it and lots of tiny bubbles that held on as my glass warmed up a bit during recording. It gave me everything I want in a sparkling wine. This region is king of sparkling in Portugal. Go grab yourself one!
